Module Overview
In the first four modules, we completed the examination of how medicines contribute to Canadians and healthcare, their lifecycles, the Canadian medicine marketplace and the role of medicines in our health system. Now it is time to start looking at how this information is directly relevant when engaging people on the issue of pharmaceutical prices.
The module includes the following sections:
- Emotions vs. Facts
- Why discussing pharmaceutical prices is difficult
- How we perceive value and prices
- Words matter
- Putting it all together: Ideas for addressing common questions on drug prices
Module Objectives
The objective of this module is to provide some basic understanding of what drives people’s perspectives on drug prices and how it can influence discussions on this subject. Another objective is to provide practical material and suggestions to put the information from the previous modules into action to develop a constructive conversation with lay audiences (i.e., non-pharmaceutical pricing experts) on the issue of pharmaceutical prices.
After completing this module, you will be able to:
- Describe how and why the issue of drug prices is an emotional subject for many
- Discuss the issue of drug prices in a respectful and useful way with various audiences
- Use the information from previous modules to address people’s questions about drug prices in a helpful manner
